Dr. P. R. Varghese, M.Sc.,
Ph.D., is a senior academician,
epidemiologist, and research administrator with over four decades of experience
in teaching, research, and institutional research development. Since 2014, following his retirement
as Associate Professor and
Head, PG Department of Zoology, St. Aloysius College (University of Calicut), he has been serving as Research Coordinator and Scientist F at the Jubilee Centre for
Medical Research (JCMR), where he
leads the Research Administration and
Facilitation Team (RAFT).
As the head of RAFT, Dr.
Varghese has played a pivotal role in establishing and strengthening JubileeâÃÂÃÂs
structured research ecosystem. Under his leadership, RAFT has evolved into
a single-window facilitation
system supporting
undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, faculty-driven research, and clinical
studies. He has been instrumental in streamlining ethical and regulatory
approvals, research committee processes, grant administration, financial
monitoring, and progress reporting across departments and institutions under
the Jubilee Mission Hospital Trust.
Since 2014, Dr.
Varghese has actively driven research
capacity building, mentoring
faculty and students in research methodology, epidemiology, biostatistics, scientific
writing, and publication ethics. He has guided postgraduate dissertations,
doctoral research, and externally funded projects, while also
coordinating national and international
collaborations, execution of MoUs, and shared
research infrastructure utilization. His leadership has significantly enhanced
grant submissions, interdisciplinary research output, and compliance with
national regulatory and ethical standards.
Dr. Varghese brings
with him a distinguished academic legacy, with over 60 peer-reviewed publications, more than
a dozen funded research projects from
agencies including UGC, DST,
ICMR, KSCSTE, DBT, SERB, and
extensive experience as an editor,
reviewer, PhD examiner, and conference organizer. His research contributions span epidemiology, genetics, dermatoglyphics, occupational health,
and public health, and he is the
author of the book An Introduction to
Epidemiology. His recognitions include
the Young Scientist Award
(ISCA -DST) received from the Prime Minister of India and Fellowship of the American Dermatoglyphics Association.
Through his
investigator-centric and mentorship-driven approach, Dr. P. R. Varghese
continues to anchor RAFT as a strategic enabler of ethical, impactful, and sustainable research, reinforcing the research mission and national
visibility of the Jubilee Centre for Medical Research.
