Doctoral Programmes
Jubilee Centre for Medical Research (JCMR) is the central research facility for all the institutions under the Jubilee Mission Hospital Trust. The current innovative patient management at Jubilee is reflected by the academic interest and research outcome of the pioneers. This research centre started functioning in August 2010 and had major academic and administrative changes in April 2014. Faculty and students are now involved in research with more enthusiasm.
The aim of JCMR is to bridge the gap between medical research and clinical practice, making the process less tedious and hassle free. Today, the clinical issues are addressed at genetic, molecular and biochemical and computational levels to effect speedy diagnosis and treatment. The last decade witnessed the dynamic growth of this centre with improved research output in medical field.
JCMR is a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO), recognised by Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. It is a recognised research centre of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) for Ph D programme in Life Science stream and Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) for Ph.D programme in Medical, Nursing and Paramedical and Allied Health Sciences. JCMR is registered with NITI AYOG, Govt. of India under NGO DARPAN and u/s 35.I(ii) of IT Act by the Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India. The Ethics Committee is registered with Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Govt. of India, National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) and Department of Health Research (DHR), Govt. of India. The Animal Ethics Committee approved by CPCSEA, Govt. of India. It is also recognised by Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Govt of India to undertake CSR activities.
The centre has reported several novel findings and protocols during the past years
- Development of amniotic membrane into a stable human collagen scaffold as an affordable dermal substitute for burns and injuries, using human collagen instead of bovine or porcine collagen.
- Identified and published a novel missense mutation within the HMG domain of the SRY gene in a female disorders of sexual development patient with 46,XY karyotype in 2019.
- Discovered two proteins Reticulocalbin -1 and Sideroflexin-4 as candidate biomarkers from blood plasma for COPD exacerbations.
- Isolated and identified four new flavonoids from Carica papaya leaf. (1. Luteolin, 2. Astragalin, 3. Quercetin dimer, 4. 2 (3,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxy phenyl)-3,5,7 trihydroxy 6 -methoxy 2, 3 dihydro 4 H Chromen-4-0ne). These have great pharmaceutical and nutraceutical value.
- X-ray structure of the human AChE-tacrine complex, revealed binding mode of tacrine highlighted the induced fit effects on active site residues, providing insights for future drug design targeting AChE

Apart from these, 24 labs/facilities of Jubilee Mission Medical College are now functioning as research units. Seventeen of them are recognised research centres under the faculty of medical sciences at KUHS. Jubilee has conducted research programmes supported by intramural and extramural grants. The agencies like, ICMR, DHR, DST, ANRF, DBT, KSCSTE Smile Train, Wellcome Trust, Melinda Foundation and many other CSR programmes are supporting us in our endeavour.
