Scientist – Cancer Biology

Location: Jubilee Centre for Medical Research, Kerala, India

Qualification: PhD in Cancer Biology / Molecular Biology / Life Sciences

The Jubilee Centre for Medical Research (JCMR) invites applications from highly motivated PhD candidates to join our expanding research program in Cancer Biology. We are seeking talented researchers interested in understanding the molecular basis of cancer progression, genomic instability, and DNA damage response, with the goal of developing new translational insights for cancer therapy.

This position offers the opportunity to work in a vibrant, multidisciplinary research environment, collaborating with scientists and clinicians.

Research Responsibilities

The selected candidate will lead and execute experimental studies involving:

Mammalian cell culture systems, including cancer cell lines and primary cells

Investigation of DNA damage response and genomic instability mechanisms through comet assay and micronucleus assay

Functional assays to study cancer progression and treatment responses

Genomic instability assays such as comet assay and micronucleus assay.

Core molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA isolation, qRT-PCR and gene expression analysis, Western blotting and protein characterization, Immunofluorescence and cellular imaging.

The candidate will also participate in omics-based research programs including transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, in collaboration with institutional core facilities and interdisciplinary research teams.

Desired Profile

We are looking for candidates who:

Have a strong publication record and research background in cancer biology or molecular cell biology

Possess extensive hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and molecular biology techniques

Demonstrate the ability to design experiments, analyze complex datasets, and communicate research findings effectively

Are enthusiastic about working in collaborative and translational research programs

Prof. Dr. D. M. Vasudevan Endowment Oration (8th discourse) was successfully conducted. The orator was Dr. Deshratn Asthana, CEO of Pyogenix, Houston, Texas, USA. Friends, family members, and students of Dr. D. M. Vasudevan attended the event and enriched the occasion with their presence. During the lecture, the orator delivered an insightful talk on immune activation and exhaustion in HIV-infected patients, highlighting key advances in the field.

Workshop on Animal Handling and Experimentation successfully completed

Successfully completed the workshop on Animal Handling and Experimentation, acquiring comprehensive hands-on training in ethical animal care and welfare in accordance with established regulatory guidelines. The program provided practical exposure to animal housing and maintenance, handling and restraint techniques, dosing methods, sample collection procedures, anesthesia and euthanasia protocols, and humane endpoint assessment.

PhD application open in various labs of JCMR

PhD applications are now open in various research laboratories at the Jubilee Centre for Medical Research (JCMR). Motivated and research-oriented candidates are invited to apply for doctoral positions across diverse thrust areas, including Cancer biology research focusing on lung and breast cancers; Genetic and molecular basis of congenital anomalies and major diseases, including cancer, reproductive disorders, and haematological conditions; Cancer biology research focusing on lung and breast cancers; Genomic instability, genotoxicity, and disease-associated molecular mechanisms; Structure-based and computer-aided drug discovery for novel therapeutic development and molecular interaction analysis; Clinical proteomics and biomarker discovery in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases; Phytochemical extraction, characterization, and standardization of bioactive compounds from tropical plants.
